| [+] Rifles, Bullets, Ballistics - How They Really Work |
Ron Spomer |
01/27/2011 01:30 PM - 02:30 PM
|
A3 (A Rooms) |
 |
Description:
We can buy scopes and rifles that will put bullets on targets out to 1,000 yards every time. Just point and shoot. Yeah, right! Ballistics charts and B.C. ratings aren't always accurate, and they change in flight. 65% of the energy in burning powder is wasted. Understanding MPBR negates the need for confusing reticles or dialing come-ups. Heavier bullets aren't the answer for minimizing wind deflection. Spomer examines and clarifies so you can make educated choices in rifles, calibers, bullets and optics.
[ –] Speaker Bio:
Writer, photographer and television host (Winchester Whitetail Revolution and others) Ron Spomer has been pursuing, studying, photographing and hunting everything from bunnies to buffalo on six continents for 43 years. You’ve undoubtedly seen his wildlife and hunting photos in some publication or other. He’s been published in more than 120 different magazines. You’ve probably read a few of his articles in American Hunter, Rifle, North American Hunter, Successful Hunter, Sports Afield, Gun Hunter, Sporting Classics, Outdoor Life or dozens of other magazines. Perhaps you’ve read one of his seven published books.
Spomer is no part time wordsmith. This winner of the Leupold Outdoor Writer of the Year in 2006 and Zeiss Outdoor Writer of the Year in 2007 has been cranking out copy since 1976, averaging 100 published pieces annually. His photos and articles have won dozens of annual competitions and awards. And in the past five years you may have seen him loping across your TV screen in pursuit of something large, antlered or horned. Spomer has hunted six continents and is particularly experienced at backpack and horseback hunting for sheep, caribou, moose and mountain goats. He studies, reviews and reports on hunting optics, rifles, ammunition and ballistics, as well as most aspects of hunting and game animal behavior.

Description:
The international term "bang for your buck" is nowhere more true than for hunters coming to South Africa to hunt. Your foreign currency creates 16 jobs for every client. That's more than we can say for any other industry in Africa, and the footprint the hunting fraternity leaves is that of more areas, species and number of game being conserved and communities being empowered through training, and a secure food source and income/ownership. One must also state that, due to high norms and values guiding the hunting fraternity and the unselfish investment in conservation and communities, the hunting fraternity's contribution culminates into sustainable and responsible utilization of natural resources. Many communities and species have seen improvements that were never possible before! These species, bio-conservation areas and communities absolutely depend on the global hunting fraternity. Hunting equals sustainable life and livelihoods, and the primary focus and impact of hunting is its contribution to conservation and social upliftment.
Join the session to hear Africa's report of appreciation for you as a hunter!

Eduard Katzke was born in Namibia, and has been wandering Africa's wild places since childhood. He studied agriculture and qualified as a Professional Hunter after doing two years National Service. Currently President of PHASA and provides safari hunting services through his company Katzke Safaris.

Description:
The big-game drawing procedures in the Western states can be extremely intimidating and confusing for today’s sportsmen. As the manager of Cabela’s T.A.G.S. Eric Pawlak is uniquely qualified to speak on this topic. In fact, his experience has made him an expert on the subject. For the past seven years, he has been immersed in this business, helping thousands of customers attain these special tags and build valuable preference/bonus points for their hunting future. Let him share with you how you, too, can acquire one of these coveted tags.
[ –] Speaker Bio:
Cabela’s T.A.G.S. Manager and Big-Game Consultant
Growing up in Western New York, Eric developed a strong appreciation for the outdoors. Upon graduating from the University of Dayton, his hunting pursuits led him to the Rocky Mountains, where he filmed big game hunts for clients. It was here that Eric picked up on the fact that trophy-caliber Western big game is often harvested in limited-entry game management units. He also realized that to hunt in these areas, your quest must begin in the office applying for the tags. Eric has become very well-versed in the pursuit of attaining these special tags. His ongoing dedication to figuring out which units to apply in; what the best drawing odds and harvest percentages are; and research into ever-changing laws and application deadlines can be put to work for you.

| [+] Rifles, Bullets, Ballistics - How They Really Work |
Ron Spomer |
01/29/2011 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
|
 |

Kenneth Johnston |
01/29/2011 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM
|
A10 - A11 (A Rooms) |
 |
Description:
This educational seminar will cover the advanced ballistics involved with the most recent technological changes in long-range hunting and match shooting with a Muzzleloading rifle. Those who attend will learn how they can harvest elk beyond 500 yards with a muzzleloading rifle. Master Custom Gunsmith and Inventor, Ken Johnston, will discuss the chemistry involved with combinations of different black powders and primer/ignition sources, the importance of high quality barrels, the significance of premium bullets, and the physics that affect the flight of a bullet at long ranges.
[ –] Speaker Bio:
Ken Johnston, of Okemos, MI, is the man behind the unusuaul muzzleloading gun. Even though you don't see his name everywhere, Ken is no newcomer to guns and shooting. He is a third-generation gunsmith, and he created his first gun at the tender age of ten. Firearms have always been his passion and, with the inquisitiveness of how to make something work better and more efficiently, is how the Ultimate Muzzleloader was bron. Ken created and perfected the revolutionary ignition system, and was granted a double patent in 2002. Building the muzzleloader started out as just a hobby, but such a demand developed for it that it turned into a full-time business. Ken still has the same perfectionist attitude that he had in his early days of being a tool and die maker. His personal guarantee goes with every gun.
